She is currently working on her first manuscript, and second, and third (see, short attention span). But she loves to write so she forces herself to sit longer than five minutes without getting sucked into the internet rabbit hole or impromptu football games. Her short attention span is great for raising four active boys, not so much for doing grown-up things, which also means writing is a challenging process for her. Yummy Self underneath his boring three-piece suits with his wingtip shoes. She’s fun, smart, and pretty in an average sort of way. Yet all is not lost-we just need to learn how to take time for ourselves, without agenda or profit, and redefine what is truly worthwhile. We won’t find what we’re searching for in punishing diets, productivity apps, or the latest self-improvement schemes. As it turns out, we’re searching for external solutions to an internal problem. In Do Nothing, award-winning journalist Celeste Headlee illuminates a new path ahead, seeking to institute a global shift in our thinking so we can stop sabotaging our well-being, put work aside, and start living instead of doing. Why do we measure our time in terms of efficiency instead of meaning? Why can’t we just take a break? They're absolutely captivating! We spent more time looking at the pictures than reading the book. The real attraction to this book are the fantastic illustrations! How will the rainbow save itself from these evil doers? It may need a little help from its friends. Seven goblins go on a quest for rainbow sustenance. Add to it that this particular brand of goblin likes to drain the color from rainbows so that they might drink the procured colorful liquid, and what you have is an entirely engrossing book for this particular 7-year-old reader. So here we have a wonderfully illustrated book about a touchstone subject in my young niece's life. These adventures are epic, frightening and exciting to my niece, who loves playing this game.provided I go first into the goblin lair. We've then made valiant sorties from the fort into the goblin lair with our Dollar Store swords and armor to take back the plastic coins stolen from us by the goblins. You see, we've built forts for heroes (us) and created dark blanket caves as a lair for goblins (usually pillows). It must have sounded like a promising read, I think because of her love/hate relationship with goblins. The very idea of reading this book had Emma racing to finish her math and grammar homework, so that we could get to reading time. * * * Read and reviewed with my niece Emma * * * I was even more heartbroken when I found out that the author’s younger brother also committed suicide when he was a junior in high school. This novel truly made me cry when I read it because I truly felt like it spoke so well about grief and guilt, which can happen when someone suddenly passes away. On the final page of the diary, she talks about Tyler’s death and why she feels so much guilt, which comes as a shock to all who read it. In the diary, she talks about her parents' divorce, her childhood, and her most precious moments with Tyler. Her therapist then recommends that she write in a diary as a way to help her express how she feels. Shortly after his death, Lexie is forced to see a therapist by her parents. When Tyler committed suicide, it was a huge shock to everyone who knew him because he was popular and was seemingly happy. This novel goes into great detail about how Lexie feels and how she copes with guilt after Tyler’s death, but it also includes how others around her react and go on with their lives after finding out what happened. This story follows Lexie Riggs after her little brother Tyler commits suicide. The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand is a story that deals with grief over the loss of a sibling. But at a party under a full moon, Becca learns that they also have a big secret.īecca’s new friends are werewolves. At first glance, Marley, Arianna, and Mandy are perfect. To her surprise, she’s immediately adopted by the most popular girls in school. When Becca transfers to a high school in an elite San Francisco suburb, she’s worried she’s not going to fit in. When the new girl is invited to join her high school’s most popular clique, she can’t believe her luck-and she can’t believe their secret, either. Pretty Little Liars meets Teen Wolf in this sharply funny, and patriarchy-smashing graphic novel from author Maggie Tokuda-Hall and artist Lisa Sterle. “ Squad is a story fitted with the sharpest teeth that chomps down on the patriarchy, and I adored it with my entire vicious heart."-Chloe Gong, author of New York Times–bestselling These Violent Delights “ Squad is a fast-paced and feminist horror story for every girl who’s ever felt like prey, and asks how far a girl should go to hunt the hunters.”-Laura Ruby, author of National Book Award Finalist Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All Vance does a good job of building the world and has some pretty clever ideas regarding the magic and how it works. After typing that, it sounds a bit like Narnia, but it’s really not. Claudia, Friendless and Alone, forges a connection with Pim, a boy she finds in a painting, and is dragged into the world “behind the canvas” where the witch Nee Gezicht rules. Rating: 3/5 Behind the Canvas has a pretty interesting premise: a world where everything and everybody ever created by art lives, with a dash of magic and witches on the side. 7/4/2023 0 Comments Daniel deronda sparknotes
